Better Morning is excited to announce its upcoming summer program dedicated to serving DC’s youth between the ages of 12-17. The program entitled Shine & Thrive: A Youth Summer Wellness Series, focuses on the facilitation of an overall wellness approach to mental health as well as simultaneously validating the experiences youth are currently facing during this important time in their lives.

Because the program focuses on the overall wellness approach, Better Morning facilitators will focus on the youth’s physical, emotional, mental, spiritual, educational, social, and future oriented/financial wellness through a variety of modules that include individual and group-based activities and skill building.

The program is a week-long experience where youth will attend each day (Monday-Friday) to learn about different wellness modules.

Below, please find a list of the modules that the youth will participate in each day:

Day 1 Modules: Who Am I?

  • Identity Formation
  • Managing Expectations (mine & others’)
  • Social Media, Technology & It’s Impact on Me
  • Managing Your Mental Health

Day 2 Modules: Managing Myself When I’m Not at My Best

  • Emotional Intelligence
  • Anger & What is Underneath
  • Managing Difficult Emotions
  • Mindfulness & Guided Imagery

Day 3 Modules: Relating to Others

  • Effective Communication
  • How to Implement & Respect Boundaries
  • Healthy Relationships
  • How to Relate to Parents/Guardians/Caregivers

Day 4 Modules: My Future & Steps Toward Success

  • Creating a Future Vision
  • Balancing Priorities
  • Financial Responsibility
  • Resume Building & Additional Career Insights

Day 5 Modules: Holistic Wellness*

  • Diet & Food Choices
  • Physical Health & Its Impacts on Mental Health
  • Spirituality and Connecting to a Higher Power
  • Self-care & How to Implement at Home, School, etc.

*Also included in the last day is a Parent/Caregiver Group – 2hrs. We encourage as many parents/caregivers as possible to attend this session!

Families will only need to sign their youth up for one week of the program as each week will consist of the above modules. Below you will also find the dates of the program:

  • Week 1 – July 7-11
  • Week 2 – July 14-18
  • Week 3 – July 21-25
  • Week 4 – July 28-August 1
  • Week 5 – August 4-8
  • Week 6 – August 11-15
  • Week 7 – August 18-22

At the end of the program, youth will receive a certificate of completion, swag bag, and a gift card for the successful completion of ALL modules.
